As the largest self-supported food service department in North Texas, UNT Dining Services is setting the standard for campus dining. With five Dining Halls, more than 20 retail locations, an upscale restaurant, a hydroponic garden, a central scratch bakery, and full-service catering, the department is led by a team of professionally trained chefs and hospitality experts. UNT is recognized as a national leader in university dining, known for its innovative, trendsetting approach and award-winning culinary talent.

UNT Dining Services is home to Mean Greens Café, the nation’s first 100% vegan collegiate dining hall, and Kitchen West, Texas’ first and only university dining hall certified Free From™ the Big 8 food allergens and gluten. In 2021, UNT introduced Eagle Landing, the university’s first standalone dining hall, inspired by urban food halls and featuring seven distinct restaurant concepts—all available for a single Meal Plan swipe.

Recognized for excellence, UNT was ranked No. 2 nationwide for best college food by Delish.com. The department is also the proud recipient of the prestigious Loyal E. Horton Award and the Vegan Recipe Award from the National Association of College and University Food Services. Position Overview

The Food Service Supervisor provides direct oversight for a designated retail dining location within UNT Union Burger. This position is responsible for enforcing all retail dining policies and procedures, supporting daily operations, and ensuring a high standard of customer service. The supervisor fosters a positive work environment, assists with training and onboarding of new hires, and supports operational tasks such as ordering and conducting weekly inventories. This role is directly accountable for the day-to-day operations of the assigned location.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED equivalent and two years of experience in institutional or commercial food preparation, including one year of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, or training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to interpret and follow detailed written and verbal instructions, while effectively supervising and coordinating the work of others.
Proficiency in preparing food using standardized recipes, written menus, and verbal direction in a high-volume environment.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.
Basic math skills to support operational tasks such as verifying order quantities and inventory counts.
Extensive knowledge of large-scale food preparation methods, equipment, and kitchen operations.
Thorough understanding of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and potential health hazards, along with appropriate preventive measures.
Working knowledge of nutrition fundamentals and menu planning.
Ability to train and guide staff on proper equipment use, safety procedures, and standard food service practices.
Knowledge of workplace safety and security procedures relevant to a fast-paced dining environment.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will demonstrate the following additional qualifications: at least two years of supervisory experience, a strong work ethic, and an engaging, customer-focused personality. The ideal individual is motivated to succeed and shows a genuine interest in contributing to and growing within Union Retail Dining operations.

Job Duties

  • The Retail Food Service Supervisor ensures operational standards for food preparation, presentation, and safety are consistently met through managerial oversight. This includes supervising staff to guarantee adherence to established procedures, while ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations at all times. 
  • Assesses service quality and customer satisfaction through established checkpoints. Upholds high standards for food quality and service to ensure a consistently excellent dining experience for all customers. 
  • Adheres to all University policies, health codes, and safety standards, regularly reviewing practices to ensure adherence.

Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds.
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
