Department Summary

The University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas), part of the University of North Texas System, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Associate Professor of Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies, beginning Fall 2026.

UNT Dallas seeks a student-centered, innovative, and collaborative scholar who can help shape the future of liberal education at a rapidly growing public university. The successful candidate will play a vital role in developing a new Philosophy minor while leading the creation of interdisciplinary minors and certificate programs that leverage existing academic strengths across the University.

In partnership with the President and university leadership, this faculty member will also help develop and advance a university-wide initiative focused on cultivating enduring human traits - including integrity, creativity, persistence, cognitive agility, ethical reasoning, and intellectual resilience - that prepare students for leadership, lifelong learning, and success in an increasingly complex world. The position offers a unique opportunity to influence institutional strategy while contributing to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Position Overview

Expectations for tenure-track faculty at UNT Dallas include excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, resulting in contributions equivalent to a four-course workload each semester. This expectation may be fulfilled through a combination of teaching, scholarly activity, curriculum and program development, and institutional leadership.

The successful candidate will develop and teach undergraduate philosophy courses, develop a Philosophy minor, collaborate with faculty across disciplines to create innovative interdisciplinary minors and certificate programs, and contribute to university-wide initiatives that enhance student learning and success. The faculty member will also engage in scholarly activities appropriate to rank and participate in student mentoring, assessment, recruitment, and shared governance.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Philosophy or a closely related discipline by the start date.
Qualifications consistent with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching.
Evidence of sustained scholarly productivity.
Experience with curriculum or program development.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate across academic disciplines.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Develop and teach a range of undergraduate philosophy courses.
Develop innovative academic programs that respond to student and workforce needs.
Build productive collaborations with faculty across multiple disciplines.

Experience developing academic programs, minors, certificates, or interdisciplinary curricula.

This 9-month appointment begins September 1, 2026, and ends May 31, 2027. Expectations for non-tenure track faculty include excellence in the areas of teaching and service, resulting in teaching four courses (12 hours) in the fall and spring semesters. This workload expectation can be fulfilled through a combination of teaching and program development or other duties assigned by the department. This position is responsible for assisting with all daily event staging setups and event administrative duties. Set-up configurations may require, but are not limited to, theatre, classroom, runway fashion shows or banquet seating configurations. This position adheres to event space guidelines and procedures as administered by the University Event Manager and campus standards set by the fire marshal. Also responsible for the appearance and high levels of cleanliness of the meeting rooms, event spaces, campus wide settings and staging areas.
