Department Summary
The Department of Philosophy and Religion is recognized nationally and internationally for its strength in social and environmental philosophy. We offer the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Philosophy, with courses spanning the history of Western, Asian, and European philosophy and religion. Students build a strong foundation in philosophy’s core areas—history, epistemology, logic, metaphysics, and ethics—while also exploring faculty specializations in environmental philosophy, philosophy of science and technology, political philosophy, as well as innovative courses on climate change, energy, food, water, and world religions.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Overview
The Department of Philosophy and Religion is seeking an Adjunct Instructor for Fall 2025 to teach PHIL 1400: Ethics and Society (Texas Common Core 2306: Introduction to Ethics). This position serves as a mid-term replacement for a section with approximately 45 students, composed primarily of non-majors and underclassmen. The instructor will be responsible for delivering course content, fostering student engagement, and ensuring continuity of instruction for the remainder of the semester.
Minimum Qualifications
A master's degree in the discipline or a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours directly related to the assigned courses(s).
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include experience teaching college-level courses, familiarity with the Canvas learning management system, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population. The candidate should possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with both students and staff.
