Recreational Sports strives to provide the kind of recreational experiences that not only support the wellness of the UNT community, but inspire it. Programs include Aquatics, Esports, Fitness, Intramurals, Outdoor Pursuits and Sport Clubs. In addition, the Pohl Recreation Center offers over 130,000 square feet of recreation space including, basketball courts, an indoor track, a weight room, two group fitness studios, a climbing wall, two pools and a sand volleyball court.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for the planning, conducting, managing, staffing and equipping the Outdoor Pursuits Program within Recreational Sports. Areas of oversight include the outdoor pursuits center, climbing wall and the trips and clinics program.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related field and three years' of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Two or more years working in a collegiate recreation setting
Practical experience leading a variety of outdoor adventure trips
Experience in developing and training outdoor trip leaders and climbing wall staff
Experience in managing outdoor equipment rentals
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder
Job Duties:
- Facility Management Manage the day to day operations at the climbing wall and outdoor pursuits center. Ensure the appropriate space is reserved for activities with the facility staff.
- Risk Management Ensure that all space and equipment used by the outdoor pursuits program is in safe, usable condition and work with the appropriate maintenance staff or facility managers to ensure the necessary fixes or repairs are made. All staff will be trained on emergency response and appropriate climbing wall safety. Trip leaders will be trained on how to effectively lead trips and appropriate wilderness emergency response. All certifications will be maintained for staff.
- Fiscal Management Develop, manage and monitor the outdoor pursuits budget including, climbing wall passes, equipment rental, trip registration, program registration, student wages and equipment purchases.
- Programming Offer a variety of outdoor pursuits programs, including the climbing wall, outdoor pursuits center and adventure trips. Contribute to marketing materials, strategies and outreach efforts.
- Staff Administration Manage the hiring, training and staffing for the outdoor pursuits program, including the Graduate Assistant, climbing wall staff, outdoor pursuits staff and trip leaders. Follow university procedures for hiring staff. Know and follow the student employment policy.
- Communication Communicates in a clear and concise manner that helps the listener avoid confusion. Interacts with others in a way that builds relationships. Responses to verbal and written responses are provided in a prompt and timely manner.

M-F, 8am to 5pm and some extended weekends
