Department Summary

The UNT Career Center is responsible for the career development and employment of all UNT students and alumni. It has responsibility for all Career Readiness, Coaching, and Education, Student Employment, Internships, and Post-Graduate Employment of UNT students. The Career Center operates as a centralized department with a decentralized approach and sustains collaborative partnerships with academic colleges, student affairs departments, employers, and alumni. Position Overview

The UNT Career Center is responsible for the career development and employment of all UNT students and alumni. It has responsibility for all Career Readiness, Coaching, and Education, Student Employment, Internships, and Post-Graduate Employment of UNT students. The Career Center operates as a centralized department with a decentralized approach and sustains collaborative partnerships with academic colleges, student affairs departments, employers, and alumni. Our mission is to design and deliver high-quality career services to UNT students and alumni through collaboration with campus, local and global partnerships.
For this position, the Career Center at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Student Services Coordinator (Career Coach) to join the College of Science team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Lead efforts toward planning and implementing career development and job search programs and services to students, by working with students, faculty and staff in the College of Science. Facilitating individual coaching, groups, workshops, and seminars. Partnering with academic advisors and counselors in the college to support internship goals for their assigned department, working with the Career Center internship specialist to assist with ensuring that available internships meet all departmental requirements for credit and the students that apply are eligible for the internship. Cultivate and manage relationships with current and new employers recruiting students from assigned department, in partnership with the assigned department and the UNT Career Center. Lead job market research efforts for their assigned area, in order to provide current and relevant data to faculty and students. Work directly with student organizations in making connections for career related presentations and/or recommending industry speakers/mentors. Contribute to the Career Centers assessment of career programs and services. Provide marketing of career services to students and faculty in the assigned department.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years' of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops. Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Experience in career services, Human Resources or hiring responsibility in industry or nonprofit organizations.

Job Duties:

  • % - Interface with students as they seek guidance concerning employment, career development, internships and career related issues - ()
  • % - Create and maintain mentoring program for online and in person delivery. Set mentoring goals for different student populations. - ()
  • % - Promote student engagement in the college. For example, offer activities such as student events at the College of Science. - ()
  • % - Assist students in finding internships, research opportunities, fellowships and scholarships within the college, university, or outside opportunities. Be wellversed on rules for OPT/CPT and other laws relevant to international student employment rules and requirements. Communicate expectations for professionalism in seeking related opportunities. - ()
  • % - Contribute to website content and social media for student success alongside COS communication specialist and webmaster. - ()
  • % - Analyze students career paths, initiate career assessments, provide advice on resume development, interview preparation, and offer internship and job search resources. - ()
  • % - Develop and conduct workshops and seminars on a variety of topics, assess their effectiveness and implement changes needed to engage and enhance student preparedness for the workplace. - ()
  • % - Develop ongoing relationship with faculty, staff and administration working with the College of Science student population and provide content and support for the integration of careerrelated education into curriculum. - ()
  • % - Work cooperatively with faculty and the Career Center Employer Development and Outreach Team to utilize more companies and alumni from a broad range of industries to engage with students on campus - ()
  • % - Contribute to reports on the statistical data for all student engagement and programming for assigned area(s) of responsibility to be used by the Career Center data collection and reporting team. - ()

8am - 5pm, M- F, occasional evenings/weekends as required
