Department Summary
The University of North Texas Choral Conducting Symposium is an opportunity for fellows, auditors, and faculty to explore the various facets of choral conducting. Designed for music educators, graduate student conductors, church musicians, community choir conductors, and any conductors looking to grow as artists. The symposium includes faculty-led lectures as well as the daily conducting lab and private conducting coaching, with plentiful podium time in front of the Symposium Choir.
Position Overview
A limited number of paid singers will be hired to support the Symposium Choir, a dedicated practice ensemble for choral conductors to rehearse and further develop conducting skills in a masterclass setting. Paid singers will rehearse regularly with the Symposium Choir and provide musical leadership for the ensemble.
Minimum Qualifications
Music major with at least 4 years previous choral singing experience and advanced sight-reading skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic choral literature, ability to read music easily at sight, confident ensemble singer with ability to provide sectional leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer UNT singers who have been involved previously with the Conductors Chorus. The 2025 Symposium will focus on Handel’s Messiah and Hagenberg’s Illuminare.
Job Duties:
- Provide musical leadership for the ensemble.
- Attend all rehearsals for the ensemble.
Physical Requirements:
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
Environmental Hazards:
- Noisy environments.
Work Schedule:
The work schedule for this position will follow the Choral Conducting Symposium 2025 schedule, July 14 - 17, 2025. Rehearsals are generally 1:30pm - 4:30pm each day.
