The Institute for Health Disparities (IHD) conducts research, training and community outreach in the areas of minority health, health disparities and workforce diversity. Constituting the IHD are the Texas Center for Health Disparities, National Research
Mentoring Network, Texas CEAL Consortium, Diversity Training Programs, AIM-AHEAD and the NIMHD Endowment.
Position Overview
The Communications Specialist for the Institute for Health Disparities (IHD) will be responsible for the development and execution of all internal and external communication efforts under the supervision of the Vice President and Regents Professor, Dr. Jamboor Vishwanatha.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two (2) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Comfortable public speaking
- Editorial Skills: proofreading, editing, writing, formatting and layout
- Graphic Design Skills: data figure creation, image creation, logo creation, flyers/brochures, posters (marketing), posters (research), presentations
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in one or more of the following: Public Relations, Journalism, English, Library Science, Information Science, Communications, Marketing
- Master’s degree in one or more of the following: Public Relations, Journalism, English, Library Science, Information Science, Communications, Marketing
- 3-5 years of experience (can combine education and work experience)
Job Duties:
- Create content for social media, email marketing, website, and internal communication efforts. Collaborate with various project directors to ensure all projects are represented.
- Develop and manage Social Media content calendar and engagement strategy.
- Develop and manage email marketing strategy.
- Ensure the IHD website is updated and maintained on a regular basis. Wordpress experience is a plus.
- Writing/editing news stories. Assisting in the development of academic products, grant submissions, publications, poster presentations, and conference presentations May include graphic design, charts, graphs, formatting.
- Development of promotional material, i.e., flyers, posters, brochures, research presentation posters, and logos.
- Collaborate with the Office of Marketing and Communications on various projects.
- Define, monitor and assess key performance indicators for each communications channel.
- Develop an understanding of short- and long-term department goals and planned initiatives.
- Other administrative duties.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm
