Department Summary
The Orientation and Transition Programs office at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Student Services Coordinator working with Parent Programs. The office of Orientation and Transition Programs is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and provides new students, continuing students, and family members with the tools necessary to make a smooth transition to UNT and toward graduation.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for meeting the educational, informational, and involvement needs of parents. Parent Programs is home to the UNT Parent Association, parent orientation, family weekend, and summer sendoff parties.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and two years' of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops. Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in college student affairs, counseling, higher education or closely related field.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Hire, train, and supervise the Parent Orientation Leader team, a group of 10 student leaders who assist with the Parent and Family Orientation program.
- Hire a graduate assistant and summer intern to provide support to Parent Programs during the academic year and Parent and Family Orientation over the summer.
- Respond promptly to requests and questions that are sent to the parentsunt.edu email account.
- Attends training workshops/programs when applicable to improve skills, abilities, and maintain knowledge of the field.
- Provides leadership to and is responsible for the implementation of all aspects of the Parent and Family Orientation program serving more than 2,500 parents and guests each year.
- Serve as the cochair to the university's Family Weekend program, bringing nearly 2,000 families to campus annually, by determining the program schedule, advertising the event to the campus community, and ensuring its full execution.
- Serve as advisor to the UNT Parent Association and act as a liaison between the Parent Association and the university community.
- Assist with Parent Association functions including, but not limited to, Parent Association meetings, group socials, scholarships, presence at university recruitment events and college nights, and the semester goodie box stuffing event.
- Manage the university's parent database by documenting and reporting parent engagement and ensuring that accurate records are kept.
- Assist with the creation and proofing processes for annual parent publications, newsletters, and other communication.
- Actively plans and works toward assessing learning and expected outcomes for programs, contributing to the departments assessment plan.
- Coordinate summer sendoff parties across the state of Texas and Oklahoma with a goal of assisting with family connection to UNT.
- Actively monitor and respond promptly to activity on the Parent Programs social media accounts, ensuring that questions from current and prospective families are answered.
- Develop programs and services each semester to engage the parent and family community in university activities and resources.
- Distribute the Mean Green Monthly newsletter to all parents and families as a way to share campus news, university events, and key semester dates.
