The Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Processes Institute (AMMPI) at the University of North Texas has been established as an Institute of Research Excellence. This is in recognition of the university’s strong and growing materials science program, which is part

Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Processes Institute, AMMPI, is a research institute which is focused to test, develop and process next-generation structural materials via rapid combinatorial assessment and advanced processing technologies.
Position Overview
The Research Lab Manager at the University of North Texas (UNT) is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Processing Institute (AMMPI) and the Center for Microelectronics in Extreme Environments (CMEE). The role is expected to be split 67% AMMPI and 33% CMEE.
The primary purpose of the role involves managing equipment, training users, scheduling, identifying supplies for ordering, and supporting users. AMMPI and CMEE support more than 30 faculty across the UNT campus, and the research lab manager plays a critical role in supporting the research efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in related field and five years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skill in performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Skill in the operation, maintenance, and repair of applicable equipment and tools.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
- Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
- Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Ability to explain policies and procedures to staff and to the public.
- Ability to maintain records of materials, supplies, time, and work performed.

Job Duties:
- Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the AMMPI and CMEE research lab equipment. This includes managing any maintenance, repairs, and upgrades the lab equipment may require.
- Responsible for training users of the AMMPI and CMEE research labs, including teaching lab assistants, staff, faculty, and students how to use equipment and follow safety and industry standards.
- Responsible for planning and scheduling users of the AMMPI and CMEE research labs to coordinate when staff and students can use the lab equipment.
- Manages ordering of lab supplies by identifying items needed for continuity of operations in a timely manner. Collaborates with AMMPI and CMEE Directors to plan for purchases, and coordinates with Sr Admin Coordinator to execute procurement process.
- Provides support to AMMPI and CMEE lab users by assisting faculty, staff, and students with operating lab equipment to conduct research experiments.
