Position Overview

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the Dean of the Graduate School position. Reporting directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer for graduate education and provides strategic leadership for graduate programs, policies, enrollment, student success, and academic quality. The Dean collaborates with academic and administrative leaders to advance the university's mission as a student-centered, urban-serving institution committed to workforce development, innovation, and community engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

•  Earned terminal degree from an accredited institution.
• Record of distinguished teaching, scholarship, and service sufficient for appointment at the rank of Full Professor.
• Progressive academic leadership experience, such as department chair, program director, associate dean, dean, or equivalent administrative role.
• Demonstrated knowledge of graduate education administration, accreditation, assessment, and regulatory compliance.
• Evidence of effective budget management, strategic planning, and organizational leadership.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative leadership skills.
• Commitment to student success, academic excellence, and shared governance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of enrollment management, facility planning, and fundraising functions including grant writing.
• Knowledge of and experience with accreditation standards set forth by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) or another regional accrediting agency and the state educational accrediting agency, the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
• Interest in developing and implementing curricula.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading graduate education in a comprehensive or urban-serving university environment.
• Demonstrated success in graduate enrollment management, recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
• Familiarity with Texas higher education policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience supporting online and hybrid graduate education.
• Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with industry, community organizations, government agencies, and other external stakeholders.
• Record of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and graduate program growth.

Job Duties

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all aspects of graduate education, including academic policies, program quality, assessment, and student success.
• Lead Graduate School operations, including personnel, budgeting, planning, resource allocation, and institutional reporting.
• Advance graduate enrollment, retention, degree completion, and innovative program delivery across face-to-face, online, hybrid, accelerated, and flexible formats.
• Oversee graduate admissions, academic progress, graduate student support services, and compliance with university, state, and accreditation requirements.
• Collaborate with colleges, deans, department chairs, program coordinators, and faculty to develop, assess, and strengthen graduate programs and certificates across the university.
• Serve as chair of the Graduate Council and provide leadership for graduate policies, curriculum review, and advocacy for graduate students, graduate faculty, and graduate education initiatives.
• Utilize data-informed decision-making to enhance program effectiveness, enrollment growth, and student outcomes.
• Represent the University in state, regional, and national graduate education initiatives and cultivate partnerships with industry, community organizations, and external stakeholders.
