Position Overview
The Director of Engineering serves as the program manager for infrastructure & building systems projects for the University of North Texas System and its component institutions. This owner's representative position leads all aspects of project management, driving success through team engagement, superior communication, and customer service.
The Director will also be responsible for the operations and maintenance of UNT System-owned properties. This position directly oversees the maintenance and operation of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure; custodial and security services; and maintenance and capital replacement program that maximizes the value of infrastructure investments. This position also serves as the liaison for partner agencies such as Downtown Dallas, Inc., Downtown Safety Directors Association, Downtown Safety Patrol, and neighboring facilities such as the Indigo Hotel, Dallas Morning News, Comerica Bank, and the Cambria Hotel. This position will also provide supplemental assistance to other UNT Component Institutions. Work is performed with a high degree of independent judgment and authority under the direction of the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Infrastructure. This position requires a broad-based knowledge of project management and maintenance of infrastructure and building systems, including energy management system interfaces.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or related field and 7 years professional experience in leading and supervising teams or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills
• Ability to comprehend and evaluate contract documents pertaining to mechanical, electrical, and other building systems to assist in the evaluation of infrastructure & energy projects
• Practical experience in building systems
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
• Demonstrated ability to establish strong working relationships
• Strong project management skills with knowledge of facility management principles
• Expertise in development and implementation of design and construction projects
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat
• Knowledge of different construction contract types, delivery methods, and their applicability in various settings.
• Experience working with Indefinite Delivery of Indefinite Quantity contracts for professional services
• Experience working with Job Order Contracts for construction services
• Working knowledge of civil engineering principles as they relate to site design and utilities.
• Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
• Knowledge of sustainability practices & energy management
• Owner's representative experience
Preferred Qualifications
*Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture
*Engineering experience related to planning, design, and construction
*Proficient in AutoCAD/Revit, Sketchup, or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.)
*Proficient in Microsoft Project
*Experience working with project management software
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Licensed professional engineer or registered architect
Job Duties:

- Develops & directs system-wide facilities condition assessments and asset management tracking systems, working closely with the facilities leadership to develop and deliver building renewal packages.
- Assists with creating a seamless environment around facilities management at each location.
- Oversee and coordinate all efforts pertaining to department assigned facilities maintenance responsibilities and service contracts.
- Provide leadership for onsite staff and management of all assigned facilities maintenance responsibilities to include communication. scheduling, & contract administration
- Be available for on-call responses for potential emergency - fire, weather, MEP & building related emergencies on a 24HR basis.
- Coordination with partner organizations or consultants
- Oversee programs for life safety, crisis management, and security and access control
- Lead all effort for tenant management efforts and facility supplies
- Oversee Deferred Maintenance Audits
- Assists in the development of staff and skills necessary to ensure best value to the institutions.
- Hires, trains, monitors, and conducts scheduled evaluations of employees supervised.
- Promotes a values-based culture within the UNT System and supporting UNT System programs.
Work Schedule:
Generally M-F between 8am to 5pm.
