Position Overview
The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire an Irrigation Technician to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
* Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and install irrigation pipes, valves, controllers, and pumps.
* Monitor campus daily to look for stressed plant material and make necessary repairs and adjustment.
* Set up, adjust, and troubleshoot irrigation controllers.
* Properly complete daily irrigation inspection reports.
* Assist with ice and snow removal operations.
* Assist in preparing campus for special events.
* Assist in landscape and grounds maintenance including mowing, edging, trimming, weeding, and planting.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
* Must be able to dig, lift up 50lbs, walk or kneel most of the day.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* All other duties as assigned.
** This position is considered to be essential personnel, and may require working overtime, which could include nights and weekends as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience in maintenance/repair or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance task; knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance; knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings. Ability to use basic shop math applications. Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs. Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
One year of irrigation or landscape/grounds experience.
Knowledge of irrigation components and their function.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Possession of a valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University's liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.
Job Duties
- Participates in digging, grading, backfilling, material installation, and maintenance of heads, valves, pipes, etc.
- Uses and operates diagnostic tools and equipment while performing work to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and install irrigation pipes, valves, controllers, and pumps.
- Completes daily paperwork, fills out work order paperwork, and completes other related documentation.
- Monitors campus grounds daily to look for stressed plant material and make necessary repairs and reports needed adjustments.
- Assist with ice and snow removal operations, preparing the campus for special events, mowing, and planting as needed.
- Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision. Accepts responsibility for own work and follows through on commitments.

Physical Requirements
