Department Summary

UNT Health is the academic clinical practice for the Health Science Center. Focused on improving health outcomes to build a healthier community. UNT Health primary and multi-specialty care clinics are located on the UNTHSC campus in Fort Worth. Our care teams extend to local hospitals, surgery centers, and mobile and in-home care. UNT Health’s interprofessional teams work collaboratively to achieve an optimized treatment plan tailored to the individual patient. Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, specialized technicians, and nurses work together while intentionally integrating healthcare, students, residents, and fellows to deliver care to our community.

Position Overview

UNT Health Family Medicine is seeking a compassionate Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team of healthcare providers at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. This role requires a candidate with strong organizational skills, a wide set of interests and skill set, and strong interpersonal communication abilities. Candidate must exhibit compassion, understanding, the ability to work well in teams, and the ability to function in a fastpaced environment is critical for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED, completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program and six (6) months of customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual English/Spanish and experience in Family Medicine preferred.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Medical Assistant certification, and CPR (BLS) certification. 

Job Duties

  • Measure patient vital signs as standard of care. Perform procedures, injections, and administer vaccines as ordered by the provider. All care documented in the electronic health record.
  • Optimize patient scheduling by managing patient flow and providing access to care. Following standard Department workflows. 
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Clean and sterilize instruments and properly dispose of contaminated or expired medical supplies. 
  • Perform and process routine laboratory tests and sample analyses as ordered by provider.
  • Thoroughly complete provider orders, referrals, and insurance authorizations to ensure timely delivery of care and provide patient with educational material. 
  • Deliver culturally competent care that respects each patients individual beliefs.

  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
