Department Summary
The Department of Physiology and Anatomy is home to researchers with a wide variety of interests and approaches. The Department is truly integrative as all faculty are engaged in interdisciplinary studies that span molecular, cellular, systems and behavioral sciences, with strong traditions of excellence in the study of cardiovascular, renal and neural-humoral control systems. The research activities of many of our faculty and graduate students involve studies of normal physiology such as exercise and travel to altitude as well as pathophysiological states such as heart failure, hypertension, cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, diabetes, obesity and sleep apnea.
Position Overview
The primary purpose of this role is to assist in the development and implementation of a new study in the Cerebral & Cardiovascular Physiology Laboratory of Dr. Caroline Rickards, which will include protocol development and management, participant recruitment and retention, data collection, data analysis, and presentation of findings (written and oral communication). This position requires extensive prior experience in the field of human integrative physiology, the capacity to work independently, and strong oral and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree. If not yet conferred, a letter from the school's official Graduate Office and/or Registrar's Office certifying that all requirements have been met and stating the degree conferral date can be accepted. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Job Duties:
- Assist in the development and management of a new study developing a novel non-invasive wearable sensor for the early detection of cardiovascular decompensation in humans.
- Responsible for developing and managing protocols for review by the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
- Recruiting human research participants, and scheduling experiments.
- Running experimental protocols.
- Analyzing data collected during experimental sessions.
- Writing abstracts and manuscripts for publication based on the data collected from the experimental sessions.
- Assist in the mentoring and development of junior trainees in the laboratory.
- Learn new techniques and also share expertise in current techniques with other laboratory personnel.
- Participate in all laboratory activities including journal clubs, lab meetings, and weekly one-on-one meetings with Dr. Rickards.
