Department Summary
The UNT Controller's Office oversees daily accounting and financial reporting for the UNT campus in Denton. The controller office also oversees capital asset accounting, cash and state appropriation management and all external reporting.
Position Overview
The Controller's Office at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Reporting Analyst to join our team. The Reporting Analyst performs highly complex (senior level) financial analysis and regulatory work.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field related field and four years of accounting experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems. Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory; to work accurately with numerical detail; to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data; and to communicate effectively. Experience working in one or more functional areas of accounting. Effective communications skills both orally and in writing. Skill in using office computer information systems to organize, store, manipulate and retrieve data. Strong working knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, and accounting practices. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present accounting data in clear concise form. Ability to plan, organize and effectively manage multiple assignments. Ability to work in a fast paced environment, with frequently changing priorities. Ability to prepare reports and correspondence regarding findings. Focused on providing a high level of customer service and followthrough.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in state accounting, higher education accounting, and/or payroll accounting.

Job Duties
- Performs monthly accounting close procedures and deliverables such as journal entries, reconciliations, and reports in compliance with GAAP/GASB
- Prepares and timely records accurate asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts, maintain and balance subledgers to general ledger activities by validating and resolving discrepancies
- Performs fluctuation analysis and obtains a detailed understanding of transactions or activities recorded to accounts, ensuring proper GAAP accounting is being applied and providing explanations for year over year variances on financial statements
- Analyzes and reviews financial statements, schedules, data compilations, information, and applicable business, financial, and/or regulatory plans
- Assists in administering financial processes, policies, procedures, and systems developed to oversee regulated entities.
- Ensures compliance with established procedures, requirements, laws, and regulations; completeness of data; and presence of documentation
- Effectively and efficiently communicates researched findings, error causations, discrepancies, fluctuations, or irregularities in the organization's financial data to necessary parties. These parties can include colleagues that do not have a formal accounting background.
- Prepares reports and schedules related to external audits, internal audits, public information requests, and annual reporting requirements.
