Department Summary
The Institute for Translational Research is devoted to bringing novel diagnostics and interventions to patients and families suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, fostering translational research in neurodegenerative diseases at UNTHSC, and Create solutions for a healthier community. Our team spans basic "bench-top" science, clinical research, community-based research and clinical trials. Our translational approach is intended to foster discovery and expedite those discoveries toward the benefit of those suffering from brain disease. A particular emphasis of ITR is the development of personalized (or person-focused) medicine for Alzheimer's disease.
Position Overview
The Research Assistant position will learn all the processes in the lab to be able to support the Genetics Core on robotic equipment as well as manual techniques. They will also be responsible for the experiments, accessioning samples from other research projects, picking/shipping samples and collecting samples for various genetics and ITR studies and projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Wet Lab Experience
* Pipetting Experience
* Knowledge and skills in using a range of software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), SPSS, STATA.
* Ability to work independently.
* Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
* Ability to communicate effectively.
* Ability to perform administrative/clerical tasks.
* Aptitude in general laboratory procedures, techniques, and documentation.
* Ability to acquire competence in new techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
B.S. in Science

Job Duties:
- Efficient in performing laboratory assays and laboratory protocols.
- Ability to perform sample tracking and management.
- Ability to utilize, maintain and manage laboratory instruments.
- Training and additional duties as needed.
