The Communications Strategy personnel within UNTs Office of the President operates under the overarching goals of presenting the University's mission effectively to internal and external constituents and is responsible for coordinating all presidential communication in accordance with the president's vision.
Position Overview
The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing, managing, and executing social media strategies that enhance the visibility, engagement, and reputation of the Office of the President. This role focuses on creating compelling content that reflects the voice and priorities of the President, while ensuring alignment with the institutions mission, vision, and strategic plan. Reporting to the Deputy to the President, the Communications Specialist also supports broader communications activities for the Office of the President as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related field and three years of experience in writing and/or editing publications; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated experience developing social media strategies and creating content for high-profile individuals or brands.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with keen attention to detail.
• Proficiency with social media management tools (e.g., Sprout Social), analytics platforms, and visual content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in a higher education or government sector setting.
• Familiarity with executive communications and brand voice management.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Social Media Strategy and Management • Develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy to promote the President’s initiatives, messages, and public presence. • Manage daily operations of the President’s official social media accounts (e.g., Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook), ensuring a consistent and professional tone. • Monitor social media trends, metrics, and engagement to inform content strategy and optimize performance.
- Content Creation and Storytelling • Create high-quality, engaging written and visual content (e.g., posts, videos, graphics) tailored for multiple platforms and internal and external audiences. • Collaborate with the President and senior staff to capture key moments, events, and messages for digital amplification. • Liaise with University Brand Strategy & Communications (UBSC) to amplify President’s content across other UNT channels. • Draft, edit, and schedule social media content that reflects the President’s voice and institutional priorities.
- Engagement and Growth • Monitor audience engagement and respond to comments, mentions, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner. • Identify opportunities to expand the President’s digital reach and follower base across key demographics. • Analyze engagement data and prepare regular reports on social media performance and audience growth.
- Institutional Collaboration • Work closely with UBSC and other colleges, schools, and units to coordinate messaging and campaigns. • Assist with speechwriting, event communications, newsletters, and special projects as needed by the Senior Communications Strategist and the Deputy to the President. • Serve as a communications liaison for the Office of the President, maintaining alignment with broader university messaging.
