Department Summary

The mission of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management is to educate the next generation of hospitality and tourism leaders who strive for excellence and embrace innovation within a caring and empowering community. The program offers a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management in Denton and Frisco, a Bachelor of Science in Event Design and Experience Management in Denton and Frisco, a Master of Science in Hospitality Management, a Master of Science in Hospitality & Tourism Data Analytics.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The Department of Hospitality, Event and Tourism Management in the G. Brint Ryan College of Business at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a faculty member at the rank of Lecturer (non-tenure track) in Event Design and Experience Management or closely aligned fields. The successful candidate will work closely with the Department of Hospitality, Event and Tourism Management (HETM) Chair and faculty members to offer an innovative curriculum utilizing the latest technology and best practices for onsite and virtual events, enhance the undergraduate experience, grow program enrollments, grow industry connections, and lead and execute signature student led events which showcase and represent the Department in an exceptional manner and also prepare students for careers in the event management industry. The faculty member will develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses (if possessing a terminal degree), primarily in the Event Design and Experience Management curriculum, as well as courses in Hospitality Management, on the main UNT Denton campus and may also teach on the Frisco campus as needed; build partnerships with the hospitality industry to enhance class events, projects, jobs, and internship opportunities for students; mentor student groups and organizations, as appropriate; participate in university, department, and school committees and other service. The successful candidate will be involved in internal and external collaborations and will lead student study tours.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned masters degree in Event Management/Hospitality Management/Hospitality Administration/; OR consideration will be given to a closely aligned masters degree with evidence of graduate coursework in the event management/hospitality field.

At least three years of professional event management industry experience.

Excellent teaching skills; excellent communication skills; clear devotion to students and the missions of higher education.

Ability to connect with industry partners particularly in events related entities and develop those relationships for the benefit of the college and students.

Evidence of three or more years in industry experiences and connections including a record of working in the event, hospitality, club, resort, tourism, attraction, or related industries.

A team player who demonstrates leadership, integrity, and collegiality.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated excellence in teaching. Knowledge of and connections to event related industry organizations like PCMA, MPI, IAEE, etc.

Possess current event related industry certification such as Certified Meeting Planner, Certified in Exhibition Management, etc.

Previous experience executing events particularly corporate and fundraising events.

Experience/coursework in distributed learning/web based course development and delivery.

Center for Academic Performance Alumni Tutor
Hourly employees in this position support current UNT Health students through services including one-on-one, small group, drop-in, and large group tutoring. Center for Academic Performance tutors provide tutoring in-person and/or virtually. This position requires use of multiple online platforms and regular email monitoring. Employees are responsible for timely communication, session documentation, and adherence to CAP policies. This position which requires the employee to reside and perform all work within the State of Texas for the duration of employment.
