Department Summary
Rec Sports provides programs and services to the university community. The goal is to provide a positive environment to assist those individuals in exploring and learning about recreation and fitness activities, in order to enhance a better quality of life and to become active members of the community. We employ approximately 250 students each year through various programs including intramural sports, informal recreation, group exercise, sport clubs, fitness, faculty/staff fitness, special events, outdoor pursuits and aquatics. Position Overview
This position is responsible for assisting in the overall maintenance of the Pohl Recreation Center and other Rec Sports facilities and field complexes.
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of experience in maintenance/repair or related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance task; knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance; knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings. Ability to use basic shop math applications. Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs. Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather. Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Required License/Registration/Certifications
Ability to obtain Certified Pool Operator certification and Applicator's License within 6 months of hire.
Job Duties
- Facility Management Assist in the day to day operation and maintenance of all systems and equipment in the Pohl Recreation Center and auxiliary facilities. This includes HVAC, chillers, boilers, INET, aquatics systems and chemicals, plumbing and electrical systems. Ensure activity areas and systems are functioning and available for use. Develops a program of predictive and preventative maintenance. Assists the Associate Director of Operations with the supervision and evaluation of custodial care for the Pohl Rec Center.
- Risk Management Ensure that all spaces, equipment and systems are in safe, operating condition. Work with service contractors when necessary to ensure repairs are made. Follow all OSHA, local, state and Federal safety protocols when performing maintenance. Maintain any necessary licenses and certifications in skilled trades. Maintain documentation of maintenance.
- Fiscal Management Work within the maintenance area budget to make, track and receive purchases for the general maintenance of Rec Sports facilities. Coordinate purchases with facility manager. Maintain and reconcile pcard purchases monthly.
- Communication Communicates in a clear and concise manner that helps the listener avoid confusion. Interacts with others in a way that builds relationships. Verbal and written responses are provided in a prompt and timely manner. Coordinate daily and schedule maintenance with staff to keep all systems operating and activity spaces available for use. Communicate issues affecting programs and facility space to the appropriate program directors, staff and supervisors as needed.
- Communication Acts as a communications link between staff and higher management, keeps staff informed about items important to them.
- Attendance Comes to work regularly; maintains assigned work schedules. Follows procedures for requesting leave and reporting absences, and provides necessary documentation/releases to work. Responds to emergencies in the rec center, such as power surges, problems with temperature, leaks, etc., develop a procedure who would be contacted if absent.
