Position Overview

This role is the operational engine of the Murphy Center's student-facing programs. The Assistant Director manages all aspects of pitch competitions, drives marketing and outreach to maximize participation, and builds the pipeline from classroom to competition to accelerator. A key performance objective is growing the Innovate UNT and Breakthrough Ventures competitions to $100,000+ in total prize money by Year 3 while embedding competition requirements into select courses across campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Psychology, Business, Data Science and four years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of event planning and management, including vendor coordination, logistics, on-site execution, digital marketing channels, including social media, email campaigns, and content creation.
Knowledge of entrepreneurship competition formats (pitch competitions, hackathons, pre-seed challenges).
Able to build and execute marketing strategies with measurable participation targets, including maintaining participant databases and conversion from competition to accelerator.
Able to manage prize pools, and sponsor recognition in competition contexts.
Skilled in developing and managing relationships with university stakeholders.
An organizer that manages multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
Can identify high-potential founders and connect them to appropriate next-stage resources.

Job Duties

Competitions - End-to-end management of Spring and Fall pitch competitions. Coordinate judges, venues, catering, prize disbursement. Develop new competition formats (sector-specific, pre-seed, hackathons). Manage prize pool growth and donor acknowledgment.
Marketing and Outreach - Develop and execute semester-based marketing calendar. Manage social media, email campaigns, campus pop-ups, and tabling. Build relationships with faculty to embed competition participation into course requirements. Create content showcasing alumni and founder success stories.
Pipeline Development - Identify high-potential student founders from competitions and route them to Gener8tor Alpha/Beta cohorts or EIR mentorship. Maintain participant database and outcome tracking.
Reporting and Admin - Track and report KPIs. Coordinate with Admin Assistant on budget reconciliation and procurement.

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with occasional nights and weekends.

The position will develop and maintain systems to track joint grants, partnerships, events, and other collaborative activities. This will include establishing program evaluation metrics, monitoring progress toward shared goals, preparing reports and updates for institutional leadership, and assessing the outcomes and impact of collaborative initiatives. The Project Manager will work closely with stakeholders across UNT Denton and UNT Health to ensure that collaborative opportunities are communicated, organized, and supported effectively, helping strengthen the institutions’ shared research and educational mission.

Cybersecurity Lab Assistant

The Instructional Lab Coordinator supports the day-to-day operations of the instructional lab and learning space used for the Cybersecurity program. This role is responsible for coordinating lab scheduling, maintaining instructional resources and equipment, supporting faculty and students, and ensuring an organized, effective, and student-focused learning environment. The coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for lab-related operations and assists with technology, inventory, training, and administrative support.
