Department Summary

The UNT Career Center is responsible for the career development and employment of all UNT students and alumni. It has responsibility for all Career Readiness, Coaching and Education, Student Employment, Internships, and Post-Graduate Employment of UNT students. The Career Center operates as a centralized department with a decentralized approach and sustains collaborative partnerships with academic colleges, student affairs departments, employers, and alumni. Our vision is to empower students and alumni to identify and achieve individual goals for career success. Our mission is to design and deliver high-quality career services to UNT students and alumni through collaboration with campus, local and global partnerships.

Position Overview

The Career Center Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire Student Services Coordinator (Career Coach) to join the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences team. This Career Coach will be the primary career advisor and educator for CLASS students and collaborate with assigned majors to ensure student career success. The CLASS Career Coach will provide one-on-one career coaching, career readiness instruction, career education facilitation in presentations, workshops, and groups, and event planning to promote networking, internship and job searches among students, employers, and alumni.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops. Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Ability to communicate and work with the population. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in Counseling and two years experience in Career Services orCareer Counseling related to Liberal Arts disciplines.

Job Duties

  • Interface with students as they seek guidance concerning employment, career development, internships and career related issues 
  • Analyze students' career paths, initiate career assessments, provide advice on resume development, interview preparation, and offer internship and job search resources 
  • Develop and conduct workshops and seminars on a variety of topics, assess their effectiveness and implement changes needed to engage and enhance student preparedness for the workplace, including UCRS 2100 career courses 
  • Develop ongoing relationships with faculty, staff and administration working with the College Liberal Arts and Social Sciences student population 
  • Work cooperatively with faculty and the Career Center Employer Services Team to utilize more companies and alumni from a broad range of industries to engage with students on campus 
  • Develop reports on the statistical data for all student engagement and programming for assigned area(s) of responsibility to be used for the Career Center data collection 
  • Assist other staff members in the areas of the event program management where necessary
