Department Summary
The Institute for Health Disparities (IHD) conducts research, training and community
outreach in the areas of minority health, health disparities and workforce diversity.
Constituting the IHD are the Texas Center for Health Disparities, National Research
Mentoring Network, Texas CEAL Consortium, Diversity Training Programs, AIM-AHEAD and the NIMHD Endowment.
Position Overview
This person will assist the Executive Director and Associate Director in the overall processes of the daily functions of the AIM-AHEAD Program.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures related to the area of assignment.
- Skill in making mathematical calculations and computations.
- Ability to keep complex records; to assemble and organize data of complex nature, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to work without close supervision.
- Knowledge of safe working procedures related to work performed.

- Ability to plan, lead, and manage projects within deadlines.
- Excellent time management skills, including attention to detail, ability to problem solve.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary settings, as part of a team or independently.

Job Duties
- Prepare invoices, reports, memos, letters financial statements, and other documents, using word processing, spreadsheet database, or presentation software.
- Prepare agendas and make arrangements, such as coordinating catering for luncheons, for committee, board, and other meetings.
- Maintain schedule and event calendars and make travel arrangemnets.
- Proofread work done by others to check for correct spelling and grammar, ensure that company form policy is followed, and recommend revisions.
- Manage paper or electronic filing systems, recording information, updating paperwork, or maintaining documents, correspondence or other material.
- Coordinate and direct office services, such as records, departmental finances, budget preparation, personnel issues, and housekeeping.
Physical Requirements
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
