Department Summary
The UNT Department of Psychology has grown by more than 60% in the last 3 years, now with more than 36 faculty members. We have more than 3000 undergraduate majors. There are three doctoral programs in the department: Behavioral Science, Counseling Psychology (APA-accredited), and Clinical Psychology (APA-accredited). Across the three programs, we have approximately 110 graduate students. The department has established formal and informal mentoring networks and processes by which every faculty member can succeed, feel supported, and find community.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Overview
The Department of Psychology at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position within our Behavioral Science Program, beginning Fall 2025. Our program covers core areas of basic research including social, developmental, biological, and cognitive psychology, with an emphasis on health, trauma, sleep, and substance use. The specific area of research for this faculty position is open. However, preference will be given to candidates whose research complements our existing strengths and/or have the potential to train graduate students seeking careers in either academic or non-academic professional careers. Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate high potential for research productivity, grant funding, teaching, and mentoring students.
Minimum Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Psychology or related field at the time of appointment
• Record of scholarly success.
Preferred Qualifications
• Record of, or having the potential for, securing extramural funding
• High quality publications and professional presentations
