Position Overview
The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of food service Union Kitchen on campus, ensuring a high standard of food quality, customer service, and operational efficiency. This role involves supervising and coordinating staff, maintaining food safety and cleanliness standards, and ensuring compliance with university policies, health codes, and safety regulations. The supervisor works to deliver a positive dining experience for students, faculty, and staff by upholding service excellence, managing inventory, and ensuring smooth operation of the food service kitchen and outlets. The position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all campus community members.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED equivalent and two years' of experience in institutional or commercial food preparation, including one year of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, or training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions; ability to direct and manage the work of others. Ability to work from written menus, standard recipes and oral instructions. Ability to maintain records and complete forms accurately. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to complete tasks (example: checking orders for quantity). Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment used in preparing food on a large scale. Considerable knowledge of health hazards in food preparation and service, and knowledge of necessary precautionary measures. Knowledge of food values and menu planning. Ability to train personnel in the care and use of equipment and in standard practices and methods used in largescale food service. Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.

Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- The Food Service Supervisor ensures operational standards for food preparation, presentation, and safety are consistently met through managerial oversight. This includes supervising staff to guarantee adherence to established procedures, while ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.
- Quality control. Spot check during production of catering and retail food items against established standards. Ensure catering items and retail food items are completed in timely manner and all items are accounted for prior to delivery.
- Food Safety. Oversee and engage in food preparation, storage, handling and serving to ensure compliance with all food safety regulations.
- Training. Provide staff with training on food preparation and safety procedures according to established recipes.
- Record keeping. Ensuring proper temperature controls through logging and documentation. Ensuring consistent use of internal order guides and established deadlines.
- Assesses service quality and customer satisfaction through established checkpoints. Upholds high standards for food quality and service to ensure a consistently excellent dining experience for all customers.
- Adheres to all University policies, health codes, and safety standards, regularly reviewing practices to ensure adherence.
