Department Summary

At Facilities Information Services, we transform information into action and improve how people work together to get the job done. Our team of professionals are woven together by common threads of information management and operational support: building information modeling (BIM), business intelligence, capital planning, commercial property management, communications, construction contracting, geographic information systems (GIS), and records management. Our innovative services ensure the right information is available at the right time so that decisions and actions about the growth, maintenance, or day-to-day operations of the university are informed by the best quality information available.

Position Overview

This position takes a proactive approach to mapping campus assets and features using land survey equipment and techniques to capture the most accurate information about utilities, property, and assets. The position uses geographic information system (GIS) software to process data into an enterprise database and handles assignments to create dynamic and static map products.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Locate new and existing utilities through field observations.
• Operate global navigation satellite system (GNSS) mapping equipment in various environmental conditions, including equipment care and maintenance.
• Operate ArcGIS software for editing and managing datasets.
• Create various mapping products and applications using ArcGIS software and tools.
• Coordinate with personnel on infrastructure projects.
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED equivalent and two years' of professional related experience. Substitution of education for experience is allowed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Operates and maintains mapping grade global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and land surveying equipment.
• Operates geographic information system (GIS) software for processing data, managing database information, and producing static and dynamic maps.
• Locates new and existing utilities through field observations and data collection using mapping equipment and techniques.
• Communicates with various personnel to keep track of construction activity and proactively seek opportunities to capture data about university infrastructure, property, and assets.
• Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision. Accepts responsibility for own work and follows through on commitments.
• Promotes UNT Facilities' core values of Service, Integrity, and Excellence by conducting oneself in a respectful, honest, ethical, and customer-focused manner.
• Committed to maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
• Demonstrates punctuality and follows policies and procedures for absences, time and attendance.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience operating high accuracy mapping equipment, particularly Trimble products.
* Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS applications, particularly ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various personnel inside and outside the university.
* Experience working in a higher education environment.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Possession of a valid Texas drivers license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under University liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.

Job Duties:

  • Operates mapping grade GPS as well as land surveying equipment 
  • Operates ArcGIS software for data editing, integration and cartography. 
  • Locates new and existing utilities through field observations and data collection using GPS equipment. 
  • Maintains map directory, produces and publishes monthly Construction Obstruction Report. 
  • Conducts plan room research for data extraction. 
  • Consistently completes expected duties in a timely manner without constant supervision. Accepts responsibility for own work and follows through on commitments.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 5:00 pm & Friday 7:30 am - 2:30 pm (one hour lunch each day)
