Department Summary

Biology is one of the broadest and most important subjects in the world today, simply put, because biology is the study of life, from single-cell organisms to complex plants and animals, ensuring an infinite number of intriguing questions to tackle. A biology degree at the University of North Texas at Dallas provides students an affordable path to rewarding careers in education, health, environmental science, forensic biology, scientific journalism and research. Biology majors will learn ways to understand nature and the interconnectedness of all living things. Biology is important to everyday life because it allows us to better understand ourselves, our natural resources and the potential threats that would alter, damage or destroy our environment. UNT Dallas biology majors will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and experience to enter a variety of rewarding career fields.

Position Overview

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Biology to begin Fall 2025. This is a non-tenure track appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve excellence in teaching and to assist in further development of the UNT Dallas Department of Natural Sciences which offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Biology and Chemistry. UNT Dallas offers faculty the unique opportunity to help shape the character of a 21st century, learner-focused, urban comprehensive university.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Biology or closely-related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience teaching core courses in Biology, such as Biology for Science Majors, Environmental Science,
  • Microbiology, Genetics, and the associated laboratory courses.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • This position is responsible for teaching four (4) courses per semester. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in such service activities as curriculum development, online course development, student recruiting and advising, program assessment, project development, program leadership, and committee leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biology or closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of courses in Biology
  • Interest or experience in development/delivery of online courses
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate research students
  • Academic experience working on a university campus
  • Internal candidates are strongly urged to apply but the position is open to all candidates
