Department Summary

This position is part of the newly formed School of Communication & Media within the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences.

Position Overview

It is responsible for supporting multiple student media groups, including the Debate Team, Comm Future Pros, DCTV, Hatch, KNTU, NT Daily, NTTV, and Swoop. This position will perform or assist with a variety of administrative including (1) payroll processes; (2) purchases for student meetings and events; (3) requisition and invoice management; (4) reserve rooms for student media meetings; (5) working with faculty advisors and staff managers of various student media areas; (6) other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and one year of professional related experience in coordinating or administering higher education programming or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to prioritize multiple ongoing responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, media arts, or a related field

Job Duties

  • Coordinate with faculty and staff supervisors of multiple student media groups and assist with administrative duties for each area.
  • Assist with posting hourly student positions in Handshake per UNT policies and guidelines, working with Career Center as needed. Work with faculty or staff of different student media groups to finalize hiring decisions. Assist new student hires with onboarding process as needed and prepare ePars for hourly students working within a student media group.
  • Monitor student timesheets to clear timesheet errors and ensure that no overpayments or underpayments will occur. Remind supervisors of timesheet approval deadlines to ensure that student media hourly workers are paid per UNT payroll schedules.
  • Arrange room reservations and food purchases as may be needed for student media events.
  • Manage budgets for various student media groups and ensure that expenses are posted appropriately. Work closely with CLASS Budget Officer to ensure budget compliance.
  • Manage student travel processes for student media travel per UNT travel guidelines and policies. For example, NT Daily students travel to cover a UNT football bowl game or NTTV reporters travel to Austin for election coverage.
  • Other duties directly relating to these groups as may be assigned.
